Auditory Processing Disorder
in the United Kingdom

Forums
APDUK has been set up by a group parents whose children have the symptoms of APD. Our aim is to promote a greater public awareness of APD, especially in the spheres of Education and Employment. APD can be hereditary, and so some of these parents have recognised their own APD as a result of their children's diagnosis. We have support from members of the Medical Research Council and many leading UK Audiologists, who expressed a preference for a parent led charity.
We have set up a new set of forums for our all interested in Auditory Processing Disorder.
The New OPEN Forum
The new APDUK Open Forum is the first level of a new forum system, which will hopefully become our new internet communication centre. The Open Forum is open to all after forum registration.
The upper levels of the Open Forum system have restricted access dependent on status.
The upper levels include an APDUK members forum, an APDUK Professional forum, various APDUK committee forums, and and Adult APD forum section
The Old MSN Forum
We will still maintain the APDUK MSN Forum
The forum has been set up as a closed forum, which means that it is by application or invitation only.
The forum is hosted by Graeme Wadlow diagnosed Adult APD, a parent with 3 APD children.
The co-host is Alyson Mountjoy a potential Adult APD, and mother of a son Suspected of having APD.
The forum will hopefully provide a place for mutual support and advice.
This forum has a LINKS SECTION which has links to some the best APD sites on the internet.
We have also taken advantage of the facilities offered by MSN, the community hosts, to demonstrate some layout strategies that may help APDs.
For Fee Paying Members of APDUK
We have created a Members Area of the APDUK web site, which has a Chat Room, a Mailing list ,and Message Board. Fee Paying Members also have their own Forum in the new Open Forum System.
The APDUK Chat Room
The APDUK Chat Room has a daily transcript service so that valueable discussions can be archived. We hope to invite guest hosts who have a special interest in APD from around the globe.
The archives will be available in the Members Area.
APDUK also has links with the OldAPD Forum for Adult APDs.
Currently APDUK and the Old APD forum are co - sponsoring an online research project with
Damien Howard Principal Psychologist, B.A., Dip. Ed., Dip App. Psych., MAPsS.
The project is researching " The affects of APD on Adults"
Again APDUK members will be able to to follow the project as it unfolds as the edited chat transcripts of the chats and other contributions, as they become available and published in the Members Area.
